In case you missed it, UFC fighter Khama Worthy won his seventh professional fight in a row last weekend when he submitted Luis Pena in the third round, upping his UFC record to 2-0.
Worthy, a BJJ purple belt, made headlines last year after beating the odds as a +650 underdog to knock out his friend Devonte Smith in the first round. The fight at UFC 241 was Worthy’s debut from the promotion, and while some may have dismissed it as a lucky hit, Worthy proved last weekend in his UFC on ESPN 12 fight that he also had the submission skills to end a fight early.
In the third round, as Pena took Worthy’s leg and pushed him up against the cage, Worthy locked on a guillotine choke and allowed himself to fall backward. Although Worthy didn’t have his guard locked up around Pena, it turned out not to be necessary — Pena was unable to loosen or escape the choke and tapped, and Worthy continued his brief, but notable undefeated streak in the UFC.
