Don’t tell us… You simply LOVE Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! You’re infatuated by it and you can’t wait to go to your next training session. Which is awesome in and of itself; but it’s even more awesome because you want to invite your friends to start training as well!
However, how are you supposed to go about it? How are you supposed to get your friends to start BJJ? Professor Ryan Young, from Kama Jiu-Jitsu, has a couple of words of advice.
GETTING YOUR FRIENDS TO START BJJ
Professor Young’s most important piece of advice is to lead by example. For, if you show how much BJJ has changed you for the better, your friends are going to be much more inclined to give it a go. And, truth be told, as they’ve already been hearing you talk about it non-stop… They’re either never going to want to start training or will, with time, be willing to give it a go.
And that leads us to the second point. Which is: not everyone will want to train Jiu-Jitsu. To put it bluntly, not everyone is cut out for the Gentle Art, and there has to be some seed of interest inside the individual if they’re going to become interested.
On the flipside, however, if your friends truly do decide to give BJJ a shot… Make sure, to the best of your abilities, that they have a pleasant first experience or two. Lots of people stop training because they haven’t had a good first experience (such as being thrown in to spar on their first training session), when in reality they’d continue rolling if the initial situation(s) had been different.
