The world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts can be a weird one. Most of the matches will go down in a regular fashion, finishing by points, a decision, or submission. However, sometimes those finishes can be unusual in their nature. A judge’s decision may be biased – or a submission might be of the type you’ve never seen before.
For example, in a recent German Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GEMMAF) event, one of the weirdest Armbars took place; a sort of an upside-down one.
Marvin Miekley was fighting against Thomas Aldemir. Miekley first set up a Triangle Choke from the bottom, which Aldemir tried to defend against by standing up.
However, Miekley had his hand extended and kept extending it further and further in the process. Finally, he scooped underneath his opponent’s leg and got the tap – hanging completely upside down.
You don’t see that every day. Check out this weird submission on the video below:

However, as weird as this Armbar may be, it’s not impossible to set up. Miekley followed through all of the principles of setting up an Armbar, such as isolating and controlling his opponent’s arm.
