It’s official: Georges St-Pierre, former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion, will compete in grappling at UFC Fight Pass Invitational!
The match will take place on December 14, against an opponent who is yet to be revealed.
GSP announced his return to competition during the recent UFC Fight Pass special announcement:
I’m very excited. I’m in great shape and it’s fun.
UFC is going to take the sport (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) to a different level and I’m glad that I’m a part of it.
St-Pierre also revealed why he is returning to competition after retiring from MMA:
First, I’m always in shape, I’m in great shape.
Competing in Jiu-Jitsu is very serious competition, but the risks are minimal.
For someone in my position, it’s great – I’m 42 years old…I felt at the end when I retired, I was training, but I needed something.
I liked the kick of competition, I’d like to get it back, and I’d like to feel the adrenaline again. It’s also an avenue from fighters who still want to compete and make money and have fun with the fans and the family of the UFC.
GSP acknowledges that his match at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational will be on a whole new level:
I do have experience in grappling competition. Because I competed in wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu before.
But this is probably a different experience…
And the level of competition is elite, the best of the best, and I’m glad to be a part of it.
