We all know just how much jiu-jitsu can do for our mental well-being, but the benefits of this sport can be even more powerful for those who have served our country.
As someone who has multiple veterans training in his academy, Lou Armezzani of Armezzani Jiu-Jitsu has seen just how important jiu-jitsu can be for both current and former military members. As a way to help more veterans experience the benefits of jiu-jitsu, he’s implemented a program called Ground Operations (in partnership with the Wounded Warrior Project) into his academy’s training schedule. The course is provided free of charge and runs from September 7 to November 9 every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 to 9:00 pm.
Some of Armezzani’s students sat down and talked about how jiu-jitsu has impacted their lives after military service. Whether they served in Afghanistan, all the way back in Vietnam, or somewhere in between, they’ve all found a sense of camaraderie and comfort in their time on the mats. Take a look at what they have to say, and reach out to the veterans you know to show them how jiu-jitsu can change their lives.
