Some people think about work — a lot! They think about it when they wake up, when they’re at work, and when they’re home. They don’t have vacations because they take their work with them wherever they go.
Some do this because they love their work. These people work in the same way that children play, and telling them to take a break from work is no different than telling a five-year-old to stop having fun.
For others, it may be because their job follows them wherever they go. Even when they get home they’re still working on a report or talking on the phone trying to close a deal. The Internet has no doubt made it even harder for some to leave their work at work.

All people need to unplug from work, though, even if they love it.
For a growing number of people, Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a great way to unplug. Like many martial arts, BJJ has a way of forcing us to forget about what’s going on at our jobs. How many times have you heard someone say, “I always think about employee evaluation reports when I roll with my coach”? Probably never.
Indeed, that is one of the reasons Electronic Arts (EA) CEO Andrew Wilson studies Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
According to Wilson (0:47):
I train a lot of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. When someone’s trying to take your head off, you pretty much can only think about that, so that helps you switch off.
