Small injuries occur in all grappling sports. It’s an expected part of being an athlete. Luckily, there are better ways for us to deal with these minor injuries instead of ignoring them.
One tip we can use is to trick our bodies and minds to be comfortable with the pain.
For instance, with a common broken toe injury, the pain can be triggered by squeezing the toes against the floor. Repeating this in small, manageable doses sends pain throughout the body. When this is repeated a little at a time, it helps the body and mind adapt to the pain, and continue on. Check out Travis Stevens (FUJI Sports) video below:
