Cobrinha Plans To Return To BJJ Competitions in 2024

Rubens ‘Cobrinha’ Charles, a legendary figure in the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, has just announced his intention to return to professional BJJ competitions in 2024, which has been met with great excitement from his fans.

Despite not having competed in Jiu-Jitsu/Grappling since 2017 ‘Cobrinha’ has continued training daily, and staying in amazing shape.

At the advanced age of 43, Cobrinha has maintained incredible physical fitness and will dedicate six months to prepare for his return to the competition mats.

‘Cobrinha’ in a recent IG post has expressed his interest in participating no time limits superfights, which is a stark contrast from the typical round durations of 5 or 10 minutes found in BJJ matches.

Who could Cobrinha face in his return? Many of today’s champion would be more than willing to face the legendary Cobrinha. Diogo Reis currently holds the championship title after a triumphant campaign at ADCC 2022, while Augusto ‘Tanquinho’ Mendes claimed the division title in 2019 before retiring from competition. While a matchup against Tanquinho would be intriguing, Cobrinha already holds a 4-3 advantage in their head-to-head matches.
Undoubtedly, the most thrilling showdown would be against the current champion, Reis, who made a resounding statement with his exceptional performance in ADCC 2022. Throughout his career, Cobrinha has achieved remarkable success, being a 5-time World International BJJ Federation (IBJJF) Champion, 4-time World IBJJF NO-GI Champion, and 3-time ADCC World Champion.

Cobrinha’s last competitive appearance was in ADCC 2017, where he secured his third consecutive gold medal in the 66kg category. Although he reigned over the weight class impressively for four years, two new champions have emerged since then.

Another big name and Cobrinha’s eternal rival has also teased a possible return: Rafael Mendes.

6x BJJ World Champion Rafael Mendes Hints at Incoming Return To Competition

As Cobrinha prepares for his highly anticipated return, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community eagerly awaits the upcoming season.

Cobrinha will be this summer in Malta, running a camp which will take place at the Avant-Garde BJJ Academy, from September 4-9, 2023.

During these 6 days, you’ll have two seminars per day – gi and no-gi.
But who are the instructors? Well, all three of them are multiple-time IBJJF and ADCC world champions!

Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles is the most accomplished featherweight athlete in Jiu-Jitsu history.
The only one who won every major tournament, including the ADCC, in a single year.

Michael Langhi is the second instructor you’ll be learning from.
He is one of the best lightweight BJJ athletes in history, a multiple-time world champion and head coach of the reputable Alliance team.

Bruno Malfacine will also be your instructor at the camp – an elite competitor who has won an outstanding 10 roosterweight world championship titles.

You can get more information about the Camp HERE.
