One of the most effective ways to surprise passers is to fluidly and dynamically transition between different types of guard. Note how Christian Xaropinho easily goes from the adjustments of the De la Riva into the X-guard, always staying ahead of the passer in strategic terms. The decisive moment of the transition takes place when Xaropinho wraps Leo Tunico’s left leg with his right arm, gaining the perfect support point to hip-escape and change his legs’ position. He concludes the sweep with the technical standup.
