Like many grapplers, blue belt Kevin Walshe uses jiu-jitsu to help cope with his personal challenges, which for him include depression and autism. Now, Walshe is making it his mission to spread awareness about mental health and autism throughout the jiu-jitsu community, and he’s doing it through his page, Grappling With Autism.
Walshe has a few projects currently lined up, but if you’d like a preview of what to expect, check out this short video he released for Autism Awareness Day. And don’t forget to follow Grappling With Autism on Facebook!
Happy Autism Awareness Day! Let us take the time to wear blue today in honour of Autism Awareness. From the last two decades since 1995, there has been over a 600% increase in the prevalence of Autism which went from 1 in 500 to 1 in 68 children in North America! There are many hurdles in life those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) face but know that what you have is a gift and be proud.Special thanks to Jerry Zhu and Peace Of Mind Media for the video! More to come end of April, beginning of May!
