Bernardo Faria repeats feat from Pan at Brazilian Nationals

The 2010 Brazilian Nationals was an excitement-packed occasion at the Tijuca Tennis Club. The greatest standout was Alliance’s Bernardo Faria, who overcame Rafael Lovato Jr in the final of the absolute division.

At weight, though, there were many others who shone just as brightly. Kudos to Gilbert Durinho, who managed to stop Jonathan Torres, who submitted Lucas Lepri in one of the best matches of the week, earlier in the competition.

In the featherweight final, Rafael Mendes overcame Rubens Cobrinha for the first time at an IBJJF competition, and celebrated the achievement with capoeira moves. “I needed to vent since, as everyone knows, it’s never easy beating a great fighter like him. I was just goofing around,” said Rafa, after sweeping his rival and scoring another two penalty points, when he sunk a foot hold and the two rolled out of the match area. Then, Cobrinha swept and the two exchanged foot lock attempts.

At brown belt, Marcus “Bochecha” Almeida ruled again, taking both weight and open weight titles. Check out who won gold at black belt, and check out the IBJJF.org website for complete results.
