Celebrity Chef, author, and BJJ practitioner Anthony Bourdain has registered to compete in the 2016 IBJJF New York Spring International Open on April 9th and 10th at the Nate Holman Gym on the City College of New York campus. Bourdain, who hosts CNN’s Parts Unknown, will compete under the Renzo Gracie banner in the Blue Belt/Master 6/Middle division.
The 59 year old, who has documented his adventurous and chaotic life in several New York Times Best Sellers, started practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after being prodded by his wife Ottavia, who is a competitive purple belt and trains twice a day at the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City. Bourdain has become addicted to BJJ and has given up smoking, lost 30 lbs, and frequents local BJJ gyms while he is on the road shooting his television show.
Here is a video of Bourdain training with Ralph Gracie Black Belt Kurt Osiander for Osiander’s Move of the Week series.
