The next installment of the team-based Polaris Squads is set for July 17, with Team UK/Ireland going up against Team USA. And earlier today, the promotion announced that Team USA will be captained none other than two-time ADCC champion JT Torres.
Team UK/Ireland will, of course, be led by Darragh O’Conaill, who was the captain when the team won the first Polaris Squads event against Team Europe. Though Team Europe won the rematch at Polaris Squads 2, the no-gi Euros champ will be eager to lead his team into battle against whatever Team USA has to throw at them.
With Torres now in the lineup, though, it won’t be easy. Torres has an extensive and impressive resume that includes titles at Pans, Euros, No-Gi Worlds, and No-Gi Pans. This will be the first time we’ll have seen him compete in a major team-based grappling event, and fans will be excited to see how he fares in this innovative format.
O’Conaill and Torres are the only team members who have been announced so far, but the promotion says they will be releasing the names of more team members in the coming days.
Polaris Squads will take place on Saturday, July 17 and can be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.
