Do I Need an EGO for BJJ & Combat Sports ?

Should you lose the EGO for BJJ training, or do you need some EGO to have that extra drive it takes to be competitive?

This was the question that came from our buddy Ryan, who is curious about the subject of the ego in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

I mean we always hear, “Leave your ego at the door!” or no ego.

In this video I talk about the difference between having high ego strength, low ego strength and something somewhere in the middle to balance it all out.

Because the ego, smashed between the Id and the Super-ego. Can give us the resilience to face challenges. But if completely unchecked, it can go in some nasty directions. This is where the “big ego” argument comes into play.

For the simplicity of short video I referred to the ego as essentially your self worth / self image. Who YOU think YOU are.

I also discuss how the ego can get in the way in regards to Brazilian Jiujitsu training, due to the need to stay consistent with our self image.

If you’re struggling with your ego, or you’re curious whether or not an ego is necessary for BJJ and Combat Sport Competitions.
