The Omaplata is a great position in BJJ that can lead to a number of submissions. Aside from the actual Omaplata itself.
For me personally, the Oma Plata is similar to the Triangle Choke in that it can be used as a stand alone submissions or as a platform for a ton of attacks.
One of my favorite submissions to use in BJJ from the Omaplata is the Armbar. There are a ton of Armbar setups from the Omaplata. Either after the arm is caught or as a result of the person defending the initial catch.
So in this video I show 2 BJJ techniques and 1 tip for big guys.
The 2 Brazilian Jiu-jitsu techniques are Corkscrew Armbars from the Omaplata. 1 is right before the leg actually catches the Oma Plata Submission. The 2nd technique is after the Oma Plata is caught.
These are some of my favorite Armbars. They’re extremely effective and they even have that cool factor to them because of the rotation involved. Even though they’re incredibly simple attacks.
The last Brazilian Jiujitsu tip I throw into this shows how to ease into the corkscrew Armbar if you’re a bigger guy and don’t fancy rolling all over your face.
Thanks to Chris from New Zealand for sending me the videos and asking the question.
I hope this BJJ video is helpful to any of you who are struggling with stringing attacks from the Oma Plata submission / position.
Thanks for watching!
