Have you ever been jealous after a BJJ belt promotion? Maybe one of your friends got a stripe or belt promotion and you were upset it wasn’t you.
This is a common occurrence I’ve seen over the years as a practitioner and a BJJ coach.
For me personally, I’ve never been attached to the idea of a belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu so much. I’m not sure if my experience in Wrestling sort of made me think differently about skill acquisition vs perception or rank.
But I have been jealous in Brazilian Jiujitsu about other things. Maybe a buddy of mine won a Bjj tournament and everyone was focused on them. Perhaps someone learned a new move at a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu seminar and the attention was directed their way. Things like this would spark my jealousy at times.
Now over the years I’ve found a really simple way to combat that jealousy when someone else’s is successful.
I hope the tip in the video helps you if you’re ever in the situation.
