Armbar Variation from Turtle – Mendes Bros

Here’s an armbar variation used at Vegas Open with a step by step textual instructions

PROFESSOR RAFAEL: “THE FIRST PART OF SETTING UP THE TECHNIQUE IS CONTROLLING THE HIPS TO SECURE THE TURTLE POSITION. I HAVE ONE ARM ACROSS THE BODY CONTROLLING THE FAR HIP AND MY KNEE CONTROLLING THE NEAR SIDE HIP. I ALSO HAVE MY FOOT POSTED FOR BETTER BALANCE AND MOVEMENT.”

“THE NEXT STEP IS TO START SECURING THE WRIST GRIP. I FEED MY NEAR SIDE ARM UNDER TO CONTROL MY OPPONENT’S WRIST.”

NOW I AM TRANSITIONING OVER THE HEAD BY APPLYING PRESSURE WITH MY SHOULDER AND PULLING THE WRIST GRIP, FORCING MY OPPONENT TO FRONT ROLL.”

“AS I FINISH THE TRANSITION OVER THE HEAD, MY KNEE IS APPLYING PRESSURE AGAINST MY OPPONENT’S BACK TO SLOW DOWN HIS FRONT ROLL. I CONTINUE TO BRING HIS WRIST TOWARDS ME.”

“I START TO RELIEVE THE PRESSURE FROM MY KNEE ON MY OPPONENT’S BACK, ALLOWING HIM TO FINISH THE FRONT AS I BEGIN TO TIME MY JUMP TO THE ARMBAR.”

“I SECURE A TWO-ON-ONE WRIST GRIP AND BEGIN PLACING MY KNEE IN MY OPPONENT’S ARMPIT WHILE STEPPING MY OTHER LEG OVER HIS HEAD.”

“I FINISH THE ARMBAR BELLY DOWN, PINCHING MY KNEES AND EXTENDING MY HIPS. I KEEP THE TWO-ON-ONE WRIST GRIP AS I FINISH THE SUBMISSION.”
