Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson aka Thor is an Icelandic World’s Strongest man world champion and actor. He played Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in the HBO series Game of Thrones for five seasons. The Mountain is now also a boxer, having defeated Devron Lavratt and another world strongman champion Eddie Hall.
Thor Bjornsson spoke about his humbling training session with BJJ black belt and ADCC champion Gordon Ryan.
Ryan is undoubtedly the best no-gi grappler of all time after he won double gold at the last ADCC world championships.
Thor tested himself against the much smaller Ryan on the day before he was set to face the last man to defeat him, Vinny Magalhaes.
The footage shows the 6’9”, 330lbs, strongman being easily handled by the 220lbs Ryan.
Thor stated:
“Literally went against the best and got humbled quite badly.”
“I got the opportunity to meet up with Gordon Ryan while he was doing his last workout before he competes tomorrow.
“I love trying out new sport and what a pleasure it was. Excited to watch Gordon crush his opponent tomorrow! This guy is next level!”
Thor is not a beginner in Grappling. In this video, we can see him working on his striking with the legendary MMA fighter Bas Rutten.
He then tries some BJJ, rolling with BJJ black belt Josh Palmer. Thor is actually able to pass Palmer’s guard and get the tap with some kind of insane compression. We can just imagine what it mist feel like being stuck under the 6ft9, 440lbs Strongan.
