World IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi 2017 Finals Results

The World IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi 2017 Championships is now a part of history.

The two-day event went down on December 16 and 17 from Anaheim, California, and featured many of the biggest names in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

The Finals took place on December 17.

Here’s how things went down.

The ladies were up first. Patricia Fontes defeated Livia Gluchowska to become the Light Featherweight Champion.

Next up was Talita Alencar, who defeated Yasmine Wilson to add an IBJJF No-Gi Featherweight Championship to her already prestigious resume.

Jena Bishop fought off a serious guillotine attempt in the final seconds of her match against Heather Raferty to become the new IBJJF No-Gi Lightweight Champion.

Finally, Raquel Canato defeated Catherine Perret to win the Middleweight title, though it looked like Perret wasn’t done, as Canato had to rip her leg away after the bell sounded to get Catherine off of her.

Jessica flowers ended up closing out the division with her Gracie Barra teammate.

It was the now the gentlemen’s turn. First up were the ultra-heavyweights were Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu were Joao Gabriel Rocha. Cyborg came out the winner thanks to an extra advantage point.

The male super heavyweights were up next. Lucas Barbosa took the championship via an early north-south choke submission over Joao Assis.

The roosterweights were then set to go.  As should come as no surprise to anyone, Caio Terra walked off the mats with the title after defeating Tokoyuki Hashimoto.

It was also no surprise that Joao Miyao walked out with the light featherweight title after defeating Luis Santos.

Osvaldo Moizinho fought a long battle fraught with injuries in order to take out Pablo Mantovani and become the Featherweight Champion.

The controversial but always entertaining AJ Agazarm was up next, taking on Renato Canuto. Despite getting a nasty head injury after jumping guard, Canuto was able to rack up enough of a lead to walk out with the Lightweight Championship.

The middleweights were the next heading to the mats. Atos Jiu-Jitsu’s Josh Hinger was grabbed himself a new Middleweight World Championship via an advantage point over Felipe Silva.

Another Atos great, Keenan Cornelius was up next, taking on Murilo Santana in the medium heavyweight division. Cornelius took the Medium Heavyweight title thanks to two points he scored early.

Roberto Torrelbas and Arnaldo Maidana fought next, representing the heavyweights. Maidana won.

Rounding out the men’s division were Joao Gabriel and Lucas Barbosa in the open weight division. Barbosa won yet another title for Atos Jiu-Jitsu.

All in all, it was a great night for Atos.
