One of the most highly anticipated black belt promotions in jiu-jitsu has finally happened.
William Tackett is now a BJJ black belt, having been promoted at the hands of Brazilian Fight Factory owner Rodrigo Cabral.
The nineteen-year-old, who most recently submitted Manuel Ribamar via heel hook at F2W 166, shared an emotional post announcing the news and thinking back on the twelve years it took to get here.

Totally speechless, I can’t even find the words to describe how I’m feeling right now.
Just extremely thankful for every single person that has taken part in my journey.
I started Jiujitsu in 2009 when I was 8 years old, and now, almost 12 years later at age 19 I have received my black belt under my professor, my friend, and my roll model @brucutubjj
I just want to thank everyone 
too many people to mention, but I’m extremely thankful for each individual person that has helped me get here.”
Though an “under-belt” until this point, Tackett has become a star in his own right over the course of his teenage years. He was promoted to brown belt a little over a year ago and went on to win the F2W 185lb title for his rank. He’s collected a number of wins against accomplished black belts on his journey to his own big promotion, and moments like his fast heel hook win against Fellipe Andrew at 3CG 5 have made him a favorite for promotors and fans alike.
Now that he’s a black belt, we’re sure to see even more remarkable work and recognition for this young grappler.
