Royce Gracie is a legendary BJJ and MMA figure. A son of Helio Gracie, he is often said to be the most influential figure in Jiu-Jitsu; as he brought awareness to it through famous victories in the early UFC matches.
Just recently, Gordon Ryan had an opportunity to meet and roll with the legendary Gracie.
The two men flow rolled, exchanging positions in an elegant manner – with Ryan, obviously, being the superior grappler given his skill and age. Here’s what he had to say about the unique opportunity:
Such an honor to meet and train a little bit with Royce Gracie today.
My 1st introduction to martial arts was watching a Royce Gracie tribute from the early UFCs. The 1st fight I saw was Royce vs Keith Hackney and I was hooked.
After watching the whole UFC 1 and 2 rerun I decided right then and there I would make my career martial arts. It’s so awesome to be training with the man who inspired me 15 years ago from behind a TV screen.
Royce was also appreciative for the roll:
Thank you, Gordon Ryan, for showing me some moves and going easy on me.
