Many have heard of the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu, know the moves from TV, understand that it’s a great workout and a way to make new friends, but are still unsure – filled with that fear of getting hurt that most people associate with the word “fighting.”

Today, GRACIEMAG.com brings you the interesting thoughts of a 40-year-old woman who beat that fear.

“I lost my left eyesight at 17 in a car crash, which made it impossible for me to play sports for years. Today I’ve found in Jiu-Jitsu a way to overcome my obstacles and fears,” says masseuse

Tania Cristina Assumpção in a piece published on the Gracie Barra website.

“I’ve been fighting for five months, and it’s the best thing I could have done. My teachers are wonderful. Jiu-Jitsu has helped me find courage even to drive my car alone, which was always one of my biggest fears. Everything about me is better – my mood, physical health and self-esteem,” says Tania, who trains with professors Hugo Britto and Claudio Quesado in Natal.
