It was a rough week for Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Last Saturday night, in the UFC Fox 5 co-main event in Seattle, he took on young slugger Alex Gustafsson but failed to tame the Swede and lost by unanimous decision.
On Monday he was ridiculed on the internet by MMA fans for what was perceived to be a lack of wind in the final rounds.
But it’s when his friends need him most that the “Axe Murderer” enters the scene. Wanderlei Silva, Shogun’s most illustrious fan, sent support to his former Chute Boxe teammate via Twitter.
“Hang in there, Shogun. You fought like a true warrior. Now I know what it feels like when you guys root for me. I even lost my voice from screaming so much at home. What a war! Props to the Swede for a great fight,” posted Silva,
The UFC middleweight went one further in stating his admiration for the light heavyweight.
“Shogun, I’m even more of a fan still,” he said. “Now I know what it is to be a fan in victory and in defeat. I’m with you, bro.”
Silva, who lost to Rich Franklin in his last outing at UFC 147, also used Twitter to announce that he will be making his return shortly, but didn’t specify when.
