Current LFA fighter and former UFC fighter Boston Salmon was on the receiving end of an illegal knee strike in his July 10 LFA fight against Shawn West, and now, he’s shared the painful and gruesome results.
The strike occurred in the second round. Salmon and West landed punches on each other and stumbled backward. But while West recovered quickly and rushed forward, Salmon was still grounded, and the knee that West landed on him was deemed illegal and resulted in his disqualification.
The extent of the injuries that Salmon received as a result of the knee (which include a broken orbital and cheekbone) have now been shared on Instagram, along with a statement about the situation from the fighter’s manager, Brian Butler-Au.
While injuries like this happen even when fights stay legal from start to finish, it serves as a reminder of why some specific moves are dangerous enough to get a fighter disqualified.
