A major promotion releasing a promo video for an event we already knew was coming isn’t normally a big deal, but in an age when the coronavirus outbreak has temporarily canceled sports, it’s worth noticing.
Such is the case for the UFC, which has made things even more official for UFC 249 by releasing a short video to get people excited for their May 9 event. The event was originally scheduled for April, and Dana White did everything possible to make it happen even as governments around the world imposed restrictions that made hosting any kind of tournament virtually impossible. But following the Florida government’s decision to make professional sports an “essential” industry, the show is back on, now in Jacksonville, Florida.
The main event of the evening will be an interim lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje, with the co-main event being a bantamweight bout between Henry Cejudo and Dominick Cruz.
