UFC Given The Green Light To Host Upcoming Events In Las Vegas

Unsurprisingly, the status of this weekend’s UFC event has been up in the air even after Dana White made promises that the event would be held in Las Vegas. Now, though, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has approved this weekend’s event and the upcoming UFC 250 to be held at the UFC APEX, allowing the promotion to expand its mid-pandemic location options.

Previously, White had announced that the event would be held in Vegas prior to receiving approval from the NSAC. At the time, Nevada still hadn’t lifted its emergency ban on combat sports, but White seemed sure that the issue would be sorted out in time for the May 30 event.

The announcement follows the UFC’s creation (and subsequent editing) of a 25-page document outlining their COVID-19 protocol. The commission voted unanimously to approve the May 30 event and UFC 250, which is set to take place on June 6. They also voted unanimously to approve new coronavirus-related protocols to allow the regulation of events that don’t have a live audience.

May 30’s UFC on ESPN 9 will feature Tyron Woodley vs Gilbert Burns in the main event.
