Grappling made the not-at-all-surprising difference in last’s night’s UFC 230 heavyweight bout between reigning champion Daniel Cormier and fan favorite Derrick Lewis. Cormier won by RNC in the second round after a dominant wrestling performance, with Lewis barely getting a chance to utilize his storied right hand.
Cormier, known for his world class wrestling, managed to take self-proclaimed brawler “The Beast” off his feet a number of times–first by single leg, then by an impressive (considering Lewis is build like redwood) ankle pick–before sinking the final submission.

Lewis did get a few shots in, mostly kicks, but none at full power and none that could prevent this from happening:

The decided underdog, Lewis’ loss at the hands of a superior grappler is zero shock. But the man is so entertaining that we hope the UFC keeps him in heavy media rotation.
Cheers to Cormier for another win.
Judges have yet to release a decision on whether Carl’s Jr. or Popeye’s is champion.
