Trevin Jones Stripped Of August UFC Win & Fined $1,945 For Positive Marijuana Test

UFC bantamweight fighter Trevin Jones has had one of his wins changed to a no-contest ruling after a drug test found marijuana in his system, as confirmed by MMA Fighting.

Jones has an impressive UFC debut on August 22, which he made on two days’ notice. He came back from a rough start to get a TKO victory against Timur Valiev, marking his third win in a row. On Wednesday, however, the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) voted to overturn the win and change it to a no-contest due to the test results.

In addition to the new ruling, Jones has also been fined $1,800 from his show purse and an additional $145.36 for court fees. He will also be required to produce three clean drug tests before he can fight again.

The punishment comes in spite of the fact that marijuana is legal in Nevada, as the NAC still hasn’t revised its marijuana policies after increasing the penalties for failed drug tests. However, the UFC has been encouraging other state athletic commissions to loosen the rules surrounding marijuana, having achieved some success when they convinced the Florida State Athletic Commission to follow the World Anti-Doping Agency’s more relaxed marijuana guidelines.
