Top 5 Instructors To Learn From In BJJ

In Jiu-Jitsu we learn so much about both the art and our self through training. We all have our own instructors who are all very good at Jiu Jitsu, but some instructors have a lore and almost mystic aurora around their name and legend. It is my goal to eventually train with as many of these teachers as possible and see just why they are so good at teaching and inspiring others. Here are the top teachers we should all try and learn from some day .

1. Rickson Gracie– This man is a legend of both BJJ and MMA. He is said to have an incredible street fight record from the Gracie Challenge days, but even in sanctioned MMA he is still undefeated. A while back it would be almost impossible to learn from him personally, but now he teaches a class at Kron Gracie academy every week and anyone can come take his class!

2.Marcelo Garcia– Another legend who we can train with is Marcelo. He runs his academy out of New York, so anytime you visit the great city I would advise checking out his academy. He has a laundry list of achievements including 5 world titles and 4 ADCC titles! He is known for being one of the most humble and friendly guys in BJJ.

3.The Mendes Bros– Even without all their titles, it’s worth just visiting to see their academy. The Art Of Jiu-Jitsu is said to be one of the nicest academies to train in with its white mats and walls. However these two sport an insane record in Jiu-Jitsu which I won’t try to explain here because you probably already know. Another crazy fact is that Keenan C. was interviewed a year ago and stated that he firmly believed Rafa was the toughest guy currently in BJJ. He even stated that Rafa went the whole Atos world camp without being submitted.

4. Pedro Sauer– Defender of the old school and original Gracie Jiu-Jitsu student (coral belt). Pedro Sauer was named the best Jiu-Jitsu instructor in the world a few years ago and makes even the hardest problems easy to solve. He explains things so simple that anyone could understand. He hosts seminars around the world and I highly advise checking one out!

5.Lastly, Eddie Bravo. The creator of the 10th planet system, and one of the only teams to train exclusively nogi is most famous for his win over Royler Gracie and his recent Draw with him at Metamoris. Even if you don’t like his style there is something to be said about some of his recent competitors such as Geo M. Eddie is also doing big things for the BJJ community with the EBI and rightfully deserves his spot on this list.
