Guard retention may make for some of the least compelling viewing on YouTube, but it’s arguably some of the most important content to view tutorials on especially if you’re a guard-pulling trash koala like, say, me.
Black belt Drew Weatherhead of Central Alberta BJJ has created green and red “zones” to help lower belts better visualize the places they leave vulnerable during attacks on their guard. He also reviews mobility, placement for frames, not being too proud to disengage, and the “last resort” of turtling.
