Some of the most helpful advice in jiu-jitsu comes not in the form of straight-up techniques, but in concepts and overarching philosophies. For example, you can learn a dozen different guard passes, but then, someone might come along and explain a concept to you about passing guard that allows you to develop your own approach to it even if you lack the exact details for every pass you’ve ever learned.
