Takedowns are the mark of all grappling sports (Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Sambo etc). They all rely on taking the fight to the ground, regardless of what you do afterwards.
Takedowns can be a tough task for BJJ players. Especially, when we don’t have any standing background, like wrestling or Judo.
In this technique BJJ black belt Nick ‘Chewy’ Albin shows a simple takedown that he uses when he goes against Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Fighters that have a low stance and stiff arms.
It’s an arm drag to inside trip.
“Today’s BJJ technique is one of my absolute favorite takedowns for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I demonstrate the technique in both gi and no gi.
One of the big reasons I love it so much is because many BJJ practitioners have a very passive and defensive stance with takedowns. Usually this is where their butt is waaaay back. This makes it hard for shots and takedowns. So in today’s video I’ll show you how to do an arm drag to inside trip that I’ve been able to hit at just about every BJJ competition in the last 5 years.”
This particular takedown is a favorite because often times a primarly jiu-jitsu player will have an easy time with applying. He likens this type of takedown to setting up a trap, and indeed that’s how it goes.
