Her opponent, Emily Fernandez, is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under elite competitor and coach Bruno Bastos.
She is an experienced submission grappling athlete and will be a great opponent for Crevar.
Helena Crevar, on the flip side, is still a juvenile BJJ blue belt competitor.
However, she has beaten some of the biggest names in the BJJ scene already, and has shown that she has the potential to tap out anyone.
On top of that, Crevar has been training under John Danaher at New Wave Jiu-Jitsu since the beginning of 2023 and has, in John Danaher’s words, shown tremendous progress:
When Nicholas Meregali was preparing for his WNO gi match we began morning gi classes balanced with afternoon no gi.
After the match Helena continued her gi training with just a single training partner every day as the rest of the class reverted back to no gi training for upcoming matches. She showed excellent focus and discipline throughout that preparation and successfully applied many of the moves and tactics she worked in her preparation.
