“Tap Cancer Out” Charity Targeted by Trailer Robbery, Suffers Over $36,000 in Losses

Tap Cancer Out, a beloved Brazilian jiu-jitsu charity that has donated nearly five million dollars to cancer-fighting beneficiaries since 2012, suffered tens of thousands of dollars’ worth in losses when the organization’s trailer “Betty” and the items inside were stolen from TCO’s Fort Mill, South Carolina office, per an announcement on the official TCO Instagram. The trailer itself is valued at over $15,000, and the missing stock inside at approximately $36,000, according to reporting by CN2.

Nevertheless, TCO’s fall events, including its usual tournament circuit, will proceed as planned. “It’s important to understand that the core identity of Tap Cancer Out transcends the contents of that trailer,” the organization announced in a statement on social media. “It is the BJJ community that makes Tap Cancer Out what it is. As long as we can come together at our events, united by our shared commitment to end cancer, we are equipped to overcome this setback.”

Want to help TCO recoup its losses? Check out these suggestions provided by its leadership on how to give back:

  1. Donate directly.
  2. Register for Global Grappling Day on December 16.
  3. Participate in a TCO charity tournament.
  4. Volunteer for a fundraising opportunity.
