Steven Seagal, martial artist and Hollywood actor, has launched an Aikido Center in Moscow – that will be used, among other things, to prepare the youth for military service.
As reported by the Bloody Elbow, Seagal was present at the inauguration ceremony and cut the ribbon to officially open the center:
I am very glad to be able to present this center today and that Aikido will develop here.
These arts can make this world a better place.
According to Tass (Russia’s media outlet), the main objectives of the Aikido Center are:
… to increase the applied nature of Aikido, develop various styles and directions of traditional and modern Aikido, increase the general motivation of those involved – the opportunity to become a champion, receive a sports category, title, as well as prepare young people for service in the Russian Armed Forces.
Seagal, who is also the head instructor of the Russian Aikido Federation, has been awarded Russian citizenship by the Russian President Vladimir Putin back in 2016.
He has also been, for a long time, a supporter of the Kremlin regime – and has been serving as its propagandist.
For example, back in August 2022, he traveled to eastern Ukraine, where he visited a prisoner camp run by Russia-backed separatists.
