The UFC welterweight division Has now a vacant belt.
The champion Georges St. Pierre announced today that he is stepping down and giving away his title.
In a press conference earlier this Friday, St. Pierre justified his decision by saying that he needs some time away from the sport and all the pressure of being the champion.
He promised to be back one day when he feels like it and compete for the belt again.
The UFC quickly moved to set a date for the new champion to be crowned.
Johnny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler will fight for the belt at UFC 171, scheduled March 15, 2014, in Dallas, TX.
GSP has been the welterweight champion since Dec. 29, 2007, when he defeated Matt Hughes at UFC 79.
He defended his title 10 times, the last one being the controversial win over Hendricks last November 16.
