Atílio Francisco, a town councilman for the city of São Paulo, has made a motion to designate a city MMA Day. The date picked was June 16—one of the likely dates for the UFC event in the metropolis.
The motion was registered at City Hall. Francisco underscored how the sport originated with the Gracie family and numerous fighters in the UFC are Brazilian, stressing that the sport is at an all-time high in the country.
“The aim of MMA Day is to bring to light the importance the sport carries in society and to support professional events, benefiting the athletes who are helping MMA grow in São Paulo,” the councilman pronounced. “In promoting MMA Day, we are also building awareness about and orienting the people on the healthy practice of mixed martial arts. On the day, we will promote campaigns, activities and events meant to stimulate appreciation for the sport.”
