Erberth Santos and Bia Mesquita remain unstoppable in the lead-up to the BJJ Worlds, which begins May 31st in Calif. Each won another two gold medals at the San Diego Open, held May 13 at Point Loma Nazarene University.
Erberth became ultra-heavyweight champion by defeating Carlos Eduardo Farias in the final, and won the absolute title over Vitor Toledo. Bia Mesquita defeated Jena Bishop for the lightweight title and then beat middleweight champion Mackenzie Dern in the absolute final.
The San Diego Open also featured Atos leader André Galvão, who won the medium heavyweight title as he and his student Lucas “Hulk” Barbosa abstained from the final. Another world champion from Atos, Ary Farias, beat Alliance’s Fabbio Passos in the featherweight final.
Also gearing up for the Worlds is Pan champion Marcio André, who beat the lightweight field.
