Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has become sort of “mainstream” among celebrities these days. However, many of them train BJJ in a private classes setting, without a desire to truly spar with other people – unlike the actor and comedian Russel Brand.
Brand has always been vocal about the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu and about his passion for it, which seems to have paid off – as he has just been promoted to purple belt!
He has been a blue belt for around two years, since he has received it back in July 2019 from Kev Capel, a Roger Gracie black belt. This time, his new belt came from another Roger Gracie black belt, Chris Cleere.
Brand shared the awesome news on a post to his Instagram account, where he mentioned that he’s been involved in kickbox training as well:
Big Day in BJJ. Honored to receive my purple belt from @chriscleere. And also a purple eye (from @jacksonkickboxing).

Russel Brand seems to be well on his path to training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for a lengthy amount of time; due to the fact that he was outspoken about the benefits of BJJ on his social media for quite a while and with a great deal of consistency.
Make sure to watch some of his videos, where he talks about BJJ and why it’s so great:
