Rugby Star Trades In His Cleats For A Gi

Athletes from all over the world have been drawn to the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Basketball stars, football stars, and numerous other men and women who get paid to compete are training hard in the hopes of one day getting that coveted black belt tied around their waste.

One of the latest is retired rugby star Tana Umaga. Umaga was a member of the All Blacks, and was made a captain in 2004. He retired a year later.

Umaga is now looking for something else that is black — his BJJ belt of course. As a two-stripe blue belt he has a long way to go, but as so many practitioners can agree: in BJJ, it’s about the journey, not so much the goal.
