Ronda Rousey, the women’s UFC bantamweight world champion, claims that her hardest fight was against Liz Carmouche in 2013. In that fight, Rousey was on the receiving end of numerous choke holds.
Rousey says that she damaged her sinuses and dislocated her jaw, when Carmouche’s hand went across her mouth. Also, she was worried that she might break her neck.
At that point, Rousey said that she was ready to sacrifice her life to win the fight. She was even ready to end up as a quadriplegic if necessary. The idea of quitting never occurred to her, such was her will to win.
Rousey told latimes.com:
“It was in that moment I realized I was willing to die to win this fight. I was willing to be a quadriplegic to win that fight. It was that important to me. I didn’t care. The thought of giving up never happened. You have to want it more than the other person.”
Rousey eventually freed herself from the chokehold, attempted to fix her bra, and was kicked in the chest. After that, she won the bout with an armbar.
Rousey faces Holly Holm on November 15 in Australia.
