Ralph Gracie, one of the most notorious names from the Gracie family, was convicted of assaulting Flavio Almeida during the 2018 IBJJF No-Gi World Championships.
In 2021, he was sentenced to 6 months in prison in the United States, in addition to 3 years on probation and a $50,000 fine.
Ralph Gracie recently appeared in the “Pura Connection” podcast, where he shared some interesting prison experiences.
For example, he shared how he almost got in a fight with a Mexican gang boss!
Here’s what happened, in his words [translated from Tatame]:
I went into a cell where one of the leaders of a gang was, but we were in the part where there were more people together and a guy went there, cleaned his sink and toilet, he was alone in the cell.
I didn’t know about the politics of the place, I fu*ked up and went and pissed there.
The Mexican came over and said I was disrespecting him, and then we argued.
The Gracie made yet another enormous mistake, but somehow managed to get out of the sticky situation:
Another thing is you can’t call the guy in jail a “b*tch”, and I did. He kept looking at me, so I asked what he was going to do.
The guy who was with me told me right away not to say that. And he explained to me that if they knew I called him “b*tch” and the guy didn’t do anything, he was fu*ked up.
In these cases, he has to fight (with the one who cursed him) or he will fight with the others.
