Rafael Mendes spoke recently about his preparations for his sixth black belt BJJ world title. Already a legendary jiu jitsu practitioner, Mendes said that he believes champions have a different mindset to other competitors, and are willing to make more sacrifices. He mentioned that he has been doing a lot of strength and conditioning work, as well as correcting any minor mistakes that he makes in sparring. Mendes believes that talent – although helpful – is not everything, and that it is important to take consistent daily action to be successful. Judging by his past achievements, few would argue with him.
