Rafa Mendes impedes Cobrinha from winning fifth by 2 advantages

It was an electrifying final in Long Beach. In the end, two advantages handed the title to Rafael Mendes, at the expense of Rubens Charles “Cobrinha” Maciel’s fifth featherweight title.

It ended with 4 to 4 on the scorecards. It was Mendes’s first world championship gold medal as a black belt.

“It was my fourth win over him; thank God I’m the one who left as champion,” said Rafa Mendes, after kneeling in thanks.
