Rafa Mendes: ‘I Don’t Do Strength And Conditioning Anymore, I Just Do Jiu-Jitsu’

Six time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world champion Rafa Mendes Stopped Strength and conditioning for tournament training. Since moving to California, he states his training consists of only jiu jitsu drill sessions, competition classes, and sparring.

The featherweight champion says he trains Monday through Friday each week, leaving the weekends to rest and prevent burnout. His mornings begin at 6 a.m. with an hour long drill session, followed by competition class in which he practices sparring.

Rafa feels the smartest way to train is to sharpen his technique. He does this with tournament simulation during his training sessions and works on perfecting his timing.
