Slamming your opponent will get you immediately disqualified in most jiu-jitsu competitions, but occasionally, you’ll find a tournament that allows it.
Purple belt Alex Magala doesn’t necessarily see slams as a bad thing, though. In fact, according to a caption that accompanied the video below, Magala says that the moment he got slammed at a recent competition actually helped him to tighten up his grips and submit his opponent.
Take a look at the moment and try not to wince — it looks like it was painful, but if Magala was hurting, he sure didn’t show it. Talk about instant karma!
