A BJJ purple belt offered an interesting challenge that left onlookers at Venice beach amused. He offered people a prize of $400 if they could knock him out.
They were wearing boxing gloves and could swing as hard as they wanted. The Jiu-Jitsu guy could not strike and could just grapple.
Many of the people involved felt very confident that they could do damage but would soon find out that once the grapple closed the distance, it was over.
In one-on-one unarmed combat, an experienced grappler typically holds a huge advantage over an individual lacking grappling skills, regardless of their other abilities. While the purple belt’s dominance may appear evident, the emergence of elite strikers in MMA with formidable takedown defense has caused some confusion in this regard.
