Paulo Miyao Receives Additional 3-Month Sanction After Violating USADA Suspension

The USADA has added an additional three months to Paulo Miyao’s two-year suspension, which began on September 29 of 2016 after he tested positive for a banned substance in June 2016.

The organization sent out a press release with the details of the sanction, explaining that Miyao’s participation in the World Grappling Championship on September 8 had caused him to violate the terms of his suspension. Miyao accepted the terms of the additional sanction and claims he was unaware that he wasn’t permitted to compete at the WGC under the original ban, having believed it only applied to IBJJF events. Miyao was disqualified at the event following a first-round victory against Amon Yunusov after organizers learned that he was ineligible to compete.

The added time on Miyao’s sanction will bring his total suspension to 27 months.
