Patrick Gaudio is getting ready for a very busy year. He’s competing on Kasai Pro 7 soon in their Heavyweight tournament and has just been announced as the first entrant in the inaugural Polaris Absolute Grand Prix. The news comes not long after the announcement of Polaris returning to Newport, Wales on April 4th, although this event marks the first time that Europe’s biggest grappling promotion is staging a tournament.
Although we’re at the start of 2020, Patrick Gaudio has already earned gold at the IBJJF European Championships at Super-Heavyweight. He’s also no stranger to Absolute divisions, having made a run at the ADCC 2019 Absolute division last year. He was one of the bigger men who fell victim to Lachlan Giles’ superb Heel Hook attacks as he stormed through to a bronze medal against athletes outweighing him by 20kg or more.
Gaudio only came up short in the European Championships Absolute Division thanks to the eventual winner, Fellipe Andrew. He did avenge this loss on route to a gold medal in his weight-class however. Gaudio has already come up against some of the best this sport has to offer and come out on top, recently taking wins from the likes of Victor Hugo, Keenan Cornelius and Aaron “Tex” Johnson last year.
