Freddie Vosgrone has been announced as the first person to join Patrick Gaudio for the Polaris Absolute Grand Prix on April 4th in Newport, South Wales. Vosgrone is consistent fixture on the UK grappling scene and has made a number of appearances on Polaris, including a fantastic performance against Ash Amos at Polaris 12. That victory took Vosgrone’s Polaris record to 3-0, with him having beaten a number of the UK’s best grapplers on various Polaris undercards.
This marks the first time that Freddie Vosgrone is being given a chance at something huge. Last year he entered and took bronze at Super-Heavyweight in the IBJJF No-Gi Worlds, losing out to Elliot Kelly on his way to taking silver in the final. This capped off a pretty strong year for the German living in Britain as he also took bronze at the No-Gi Pan-Ams at the start of 2019.
While Vosgrone isn’t exactly well-known, he’s pretty widely regarded as one of the next best things to come out of the UK professional grappling scene. This marks a huge opportunity for Vosgrone to make a name for himself and realistically, he has a solid chance of making waves at the Polaris Absolute Grand Prix. With a strong performance against one or more of the big names that this tournament might attract, Vosgrone could book himself some even bigger opportunities as the year goes on.
